Since that moment, all organizations started to apply organization chart with the aim of subdivision of the organization into smaller constituent parts, which sufficiently simplifies the process of work organization as well as control of work fulfillment. The general definition of the term â€Å"organization chart† states, that this is a â€Å"diagram that shows the structure of an organization and the relationships and relative ranks of its parts and positions/jobs† (Kaliski, 2001: 3). Thus in this paper the issues, related to the organiza tion structure and organization chart will be discussed; separate attention will be paid to the importance of the organizational structure and its major characteristics and types.  Any type of work or production should be organized in the proper way, in order to guarantee its efficiency and work without standstills, thus organization is always considered to be a vitally important part of the management process. Often organization is considered to be the process and the organizational structure is the result of this process. In other words, the process of organizing enables the best use of the resources and their management, in order to reach the suggested goals. â€Å"The term Organization is derived from the word organism which means a structure of body divided into parts that are held together by a fabric of relationship as one organic whole† (Robbins and Judge, 2007: 69). There are usually a lot of people, working in one company, they are united into some departments, ea ch of them is working in some concrete sphere. However, the general goals of the company can be reached only under the condition, that every worker, every department is able to fulfill the necessary function, and then as the result to reach the set goals. In order to coordinate their work and combine their effort, organization structure is needed. Organization is responsible for administration, direction and control of the work performance. In order to achieve the needed goals, based on the available materials and human resources, the proper organization should guarantee their correct usage, and avoiding of wastage. Still all the companies are different, thus they need different types of organizations, corresponding to the concrete tasks and type of work, number of workers and so on. This is done first of all with the help of creation of the organization chart, which is â€Å"a diagram showing graphically the relation of one official to another, or others, of a company† (Mile s and Snow, 1992: 13). Also it is used for establishing relations between various departments for the sake of their successful functioning. Some huge organizations are split into several charts for convenience. Some concrete form of making the organization chart was not worked, it is important to put the head department on the top and the rest should be below correspondingly to their positions and their ranks. For better visualization, the names of the departments or concrete persons are put in boxes or circles. With the help of usual direct lines it is possible to show the relations between departments and positions.Some of the reasons, why creating of the organization is important were already mentioned. Proper organization provides the chances for all workers and managers, at all levels, to increase their creativity and continue their self- development and self- realization, which is really important for quicker and more productive performance of each individual worker as well as the company in general. â€Å"Effective administration of business will not be possible without the support of sound organization structure. Delegation, departmentation and decentralization are the tools for effective administration† (Robbins and Judge, 2007: 72). Only under the condition, that every worker is fully aware of his responsibility, it is possible to seize control over the work done and have it performed in the best possible way. The top management is responsible for taking all important decisions and for giving the corresponding orders to the general managers, whose task is to pass them to the executive departments of the company. The responsibility in such organization form is moving from the lowest level to the top management. This type of organization is rather old, however due to its advantages is still in use no wadays. First of all it is simple and easy to understand by all workers, both by managers and their subordinates and causes no questions related to authority. The process of decision – making is simple at all levels. Discipline is also supported by this type of organization, because it is absolutely clear, how the system of authority is built. For example there is sales’ manager and sales department in his subordination, this means, that each manager and his department are working within the limits of his area of authority and responsibility. Nowadays a lot of big companies and production enterprises are applying exactly this type of organization, because it allows putting the narrow specialists to the proper positions, guaranteeing the best efficiency of their work fulfilled.   At the same time, each of the eight managers is responsible for his concrete sphere of work and this provides all possibilities to him to concentrate better on the concrete tasks and problems.The line and organization structure is based on the principle that â€Å"line executives and staff (specialists) are combined together. The line executives are doers whereas staff refers to experts and act as thinkers† (Miles and Snow, 1992: 29). All the research activities belong to the spheres of staff workers’ responsibility. Staff specialists are regarded â€Å"thinkers† and the line executives – â€Å"the ones who execute† their plans. Metrojaya Card Application Form Essay At a first glimpse, I can definitely say that it has been more successful in catching an applicants eye than the ones from Jusco. Already the front page has pictures around the border showing various items. Also, it is crowned with a close up photograph of the card that is advertised. Then, in bold red letters, there is a slogan, which is meant to attract the reader. It says The card that takes your shopping further. Further down the page there are sub-headings, which already give a brief introduction to the contents of the form. When the form is opened, I must say that it immediately impresses me. If I was to apply to a shopping bonus card then I would definitely fall for Metrojaya. There are big white headings on a red background indicating what a costumer stands to gain from the use of this card. Also there is a table that briefly shows what a costumer gains when he/she has a certain number of points. Underneath, there is a brief explanation of how the points are awarded and a reference to a telephone number for more information. After that there is a very well laid out section where the applicant is supposed to fill out his personal profile where there is comparatively more space available than in the J-card application form. The information that is asked from the applicant is basically the same as the one mentioned for the J-card above which was name, address, birth date, sex, nationality, religion, and profession details such as amount of monthly income. The information is very clearly set out and it is clear to the applicant what information is required off him/her. The form was also designed for the readers convenience with a moderate use of extended vocabulary. In the back of the form there are the terms and conditions, which are set out in bullet points and furthermore are very well explained and clear. In addition there is a small section dedicated to the advertisement of some shops enclosed within the Metrojaya chain. Overall, I think this form is very well presented and attractive however it lacks further explanations to how the card works. It really succeeds in attracting someones attention by its colourful attire. The information it contains and what the form requires the applicant to do is very clear and comprehensive. The layout of the various sections of the form is very good as well. The designer has accurately used different colours to emphasize the various importance of certain headings or slogans. This, I think, has something to do with the fact that Malaysia is a multiracial country and presumably the establishment is trying to attract as many customers as possible by creating a form that is to their convenience. Furthermore, Citibank asks for details about the applicants job and also about the monthly income of people, their marital status and whether their residence is owned or rented. Furthermore, and as a means of publicity and wanting to attract the publics attention, the designer has enclosed a section where the bank is advertising the Handspring Visor Platinum, an electronic pocket size organiser. It is said that each new subscriber to the card will receive one free and people who already have a card can buy one at a special privilege price. This device is also included on the front page of the form where there is a picture showing a person using one and other persons looking at him with surprise. To sum up I think that the form as a whole is fairly well laid out thinking of the vast array of information that is asked from the client. However, there is too little space for applicants to write down their personal information. In general, though, it has a fairly clear set out and it is easy to understand. The form indicates formality to some extent by using extended but clear vocabulary. Just like in the Jusco and Metrojaya forms, the information it asks from the clients is rather personal but required in far more detail. The scale to which the form attracts attention is fairly high. The front page, along with the advertising in picture form is somehow eye catching and the fact that something can be received when applying to this card is very appealing to most people. Inside, however, formalitys presence can be strongly noticed.

Symbolism in The Chrysanthemums by John Steinbeck "A symbol is an act, person, thing, or spectacle that stands for something else, by association a usually broader idea in addition to its own literal meaning" (Cassill & Bausch, 1728). John Steinbeck's "The Chrysanthemums" may seem as a story describing a simple day with the Allen couple. It begins with Elisa Allen working in her garden and her husband, Henry Allen, negotiating with two suited business men that want to purchase steers. They seem to engage in conversations and go about their day as they normally would do. By the time the story ends, they are on their way to dinner and a movie. At first glance, this story may seem as nothing special, just a day in the life of fairly happy couple attempting to enjoy their marriage. However, there is much more under the surface of what is written. The story has a relative amount of symbols which gives light on other details of the story. It is not until after looking at deeper meanings of some of the symbols that there can be a m ore comprehensive reading of the tale. If one takes a good look, one can notice that Henry is an uncommunicative husband, and Elisa craves for more from the relationship, and her life. The lack of passion between Elisa and her husband leads her to use her flowers, the chrysanthemums, and other household tasks as an outlet for the attention that she longs for. Elisa, like many other women, is limited by society's view on women's position in the home. A more clear example of how Elisa feels can be better explained by Steinbeck's description of the where Elisa and Henry live. "The high gray-flannel fog of winter closed off the Salinas Valley from the sky and from all the rest of the world. On e... ...but romantic. That simple gesture is enough to sustain Elisa for the present time. She probably also realizes that the wine is the most she will get out of Henry for a long time. All of this insight and analysis of the meaning behind Elisa's chrysanthemums is what opens up the undisclosed doors of this story. If one did not look further into the story, it would seem as if the author was providing a bunch of unnecessary pieces of information about a specific day in the life of Elisa Allen. The chrysanthemums, being the key to the story, give a more in-depth understanding of this woman's life and her struggles that would otherwise not be acknowledged. McCarthy relates the classes Dave attended to a foreign country with a language that had to be learned in order to succeed. Dave struggled in his poetry class because he failed to learn the â€Å"foreign† language of the class. In this academic discourse, Dave had to learn to analyze and write essays that will, make [him] say something quite specific about the meaning of a poem (your thesis) and demonstrate how far [he has] progressed In recognizing and dealing with he devices a poet uses to expresses his Insights† (242).Because this was unlike what he had to do in his Freshmen Composition or Biology class, this approach was foreign to him. He was use to summarizing and proving his textual coherence but now he was more focused on new ways of thinking and writing for that class. HIS grades In the poetry class never Improved. The social aspects as well as his coherence Influenced his writing. Dave had a connection to the writing his both of his other classes but not to poe try.He thought that none of the poetry related except for the salary literary devices. He also felt that he was an outsider on the adolescence while his instructor wasn't. He would spend hours writing the essay to fulfill the required Manner and Quality just to have his errors pointed out without any explanation as to why they were wrong. Dave felt that, â€Å"In Poetry, more or less each poem is different, o it's not taught to you.You just have to figure it out from that poem itself and hope Dry. Forsook likes it† (251 This hindered Dive's chance of succeeding in the class. Because he saw that his writing was failing he could've asked to meet with the professor privately to discuss what he was doing wrong. The professor also could've had more guideline lectures and helped the students by pointing out some details in the poem that would've benefited their writing.

The Rise and Decline of the Socialist Party in the United States Throughout American history, there have been an array of factions vying for votes in our democratic system of government. These organizations consist of leaders who believe in an idea and have developed ways to achieve that idea. Success of a political organization, or party, is based on how well leaders can convince people to follow them and Join their ranks. Socialism as a political idea is based on cooperative ownership and redistribution of goods, services, and production. The Socialist Party of America was one faction whose roots are based in socialism.Created in 1901, the SPA was formed by the combination of the Social Democratic Party of America, a short lived movement, and the Social Labor Party, a working man's party. This combination attracted new members, as well as members from the progressive and populist parties, which made up the majority of the SPA. The rise of the Socialist Party of America was fueled b y the working mans desire for a utopian society. Campaign promises for public ownership of utilities, better sanitation, and a social security program, at local levels, led to the party's highpoint in 1912.These small successes were short lived. The American citizens sense of individualism and pride as well as a lack in acquiring news members and support set the wheels of failure in motion. The party's staunch opposition to involvement in World War I and the expulsion of its members led to The Socialist Party's final moment. Faction polarization within the party crippled a once unified front, and finally President Roosevelt's â€Å"New Deal† legislation effectively silenced the American Socialist party. The lineage of the Socialist Party of America (SPA) can be traced back to the early 1850s.The United States was a bustling nation full of opportunity. Endless new eginnings and freedoms appealed to European citizens who were looking for a better life. Seeking a better life, a boom in 1850 brought 1,713,000 immigrants through Ellis island, bringing along with them their philosophical ideas of socialisml . The failed German revolution of 1848 procured the emigration of Germans to America. Some of these immigrants were the intellectual leaders of the failed revolution, but most were impoverished Germans that lost confidence in their government to provide for them the basic necessities of life.Along with Germans, Italians, Finns, Jews, Hungarians, Ukrainians, Bohemians and Russians came to America toting their socialist values2. Finns were particularly strong in their socialists ideas. Settling in the Midwest, former Finnish citizens imported a revolutionary perspective of socialism to Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan3. Into the 19th century, German immigrants settling in Midwestern cities such as Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Dayton, Ohio, and St. Louis, Missouri put fourth major inputs and provided body to the growth of socialism in the United States.Immigrants to the United States were not the only ones seeking change. The philosophy ot socialism in the states was viewed witn no interest by American itizens. This has to do with the character of American culture and our views. American culture has maintained a faith in individualism, economic advancement, and equal opportunity in the marketplace4. In short, Americans put their faith in capitalism. But capitalism does not always deal everyone a fair hand and there are inconsistencies in the market. This led to formation of radical, third party socialist based movements in America's traditional two party political spectrum.These third parties were viewed as radical because during the 1850's to the 1930's there was an expression of deep distrust towards the expansion and ntervention of states by citizens concerning their private affairs5. Alternatives to socialism were made. The Progressive party's programs of modest state intervention through federal legislative mandate to preserve individua l rights, entrepreneurial values, and the fundamental capitalist structure, appealed to many Americans as a moderate alternative to socialism6. The Populist party was one other third party movement the dabbled in socialist ideas.Running on a platform of government intervention to offset economic troubles and preventing poverty in farming and orking class families ultimately led to the majority of the party consisting of farming and working class families. Many Populists would leave to become socialists7. Out of these movements, a man named Eugene V. Debs would step forward to ignite and unite what would ultimately be known as the Socialist Party of America. Eugene â€Å"Gene† Victor Debs Was born in Terre Haute, Indiana on November 5th, 1855 and died October 20th, 1926 in Elmhurst, Illinois at the age of 70 years old.Debs was one of the founding members of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW), a founding member of the American Railway Union and a democrat in the Indiana General Assembly. Eugene Debs would leave behind a legacy as being the most well known Socialist in the United States8. In 1894, the American railroad car manufacturer Pullman Company reduced hours and wages but not rents on housing for their workers. This resulted in a strike by the employees who then had Joined Debs's American Railway Union.The strike was broken up by President Grover Cleveland and Debs was imprisoned for failing to oppose the strike as leader of the ARU9. In prison Debs passed time by reading work written by Karl Marx. Released in 1895, Debs had become a socialist who believed apitalism should be replaced by a new cooperative system. Debs was for advocated radical reform, but was opposed to the revolutionary violence supported by some well known left-wing political movements10. In 1897 Debs Joined Victor Berger to form the Social Democratic Party (SDP).The SDP was a short lived socialist movement that ran Eugene Debs as a candidate in the 1900 presidential electi on. After receiving only . 6% of the votes, the Social Democratic party combined with the even smaller faction, the Socialist Labor Party of Americal 1 creating the Socialist Party of America SPA) in 1901. The newly created SPA attracted members with various ties to socialism. Between the years ot 1 1 to 1912, the party grew trom 1 members to under 1 The demographic locations of theses voters ranged from the East coast to the West coast with the majority of party members being in Midwestern states.The SPA drew support from Progressives, Populist farmers across the heartland, unions and unionists with the most voting 2 strength coming from immigrants. 13 The socialist Journal Appeal to Reason14, a mixture of articles and extracts from radical socialism based authors such as Karl Marks and Tom Paine, was selling 500,000 copies a week. Thus giving a way to advertise their ideas and party platform. The strength of the SPA was determined by the people who used a vote to cast their voice. Local level victories dotted the map from East to West.New York state and New Jersey were two states that had consistent SPA voters due to immigrants. The Midwest proved to be where the highest concentration of SPA members resided. Ohio, Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin were the strong holds made up of German immigrants and Populist farmers. SPA members running as candidates tried to appeal to the working man. Public ownership of utilities, better city sanitation services for the poor, better labor standards and a social security program elected 70 mayors into officel 5. SPA victories at the federal level were small.Eugene Debs ran as a presidential candidate in every election between 1900 and 1912, and once in 1920. 1900's election was dismal. Debs received only . 6% of the popular vote. In 1904 Debs Ran again and received an increase in votes, 402,810 3% of the popular vote. Voter turnout in the 1908 election was slightly higher, 420,793 votes for Debs. The election of 1912 showe d the Socialist Party of Americas highpoint. There was 117,984 members of the SPA, and Eugene Debs got a total of 901 ,551 votes, 6% of the popular vote. This was the most impressive showing of any presidential candidate in any United States election. 6 At the outbreak of World War I in 1914, the SPA took a staunch opposition against the war. They were opposed to all international wars but not opposed to class warfare. This opposition to the war caused membership to decline and started conflict within the party itself. In 1919, The left Wing Section of the Socialist party emerged as a faction inside the Socialist Party of America. During an election to elect new board members of the SPA, it was seen that the Left Wing Section of the Socialist party was going to gain the majority of seats.Those not in the faction decided against this and said that votes were cast in fraudulent manners. These votes were not tallied and the whole election was rejected. On the 24th of May, 1919 the lead ership expelled 20,000 members who supported the Soviet government. The process continued and by the beginning of July two-thirds of the party had been suspended or expelled. These expelled members would soon Join together to for the Communist Party of America. The growth of radicals worried President Cleveland and his administration. America soon entered into the Red Scare.On 7th November, 1919, the second anniversary of the Russian Revolution, over 10,000 suspected communists and anarchists were arrested in what became known as the Palmer Raids. No evidence a revolution was tound but many radicals were still kept in Jaill As a result ot these raids people were afraid to Join leftist radical parties out of fear of being called a communist, which could result in the deportation to Russia. 3 On October 20th 1926, Eugene Debs died and Norman Thomas replaced him as he leader of the Socialist Party of America.Thomas ran as a presidential candidate in the election preceding his rise to l eadership, but the SPA was weak. Thomas did not get as many votes as Debs due to socialist ideas creeping into President Franklin Roosevelt's (FDR) agenda. In response to the great depression, FDR created his â€Å"New Deal† to ease burdens on families trying to cope. The 1st new deal, FDR's First 100 days, created programs like the civilian conservation corps, the Tennessee Valley Authority and the Agricultural Adjustment bureau. These programs dabbled in socialist ideals .The Agricultural Adjustment bureau in particular appealed to Populist-SPA farmers because it was a form of entitlements that helped a struggling farmer. Roosevelt's 2nd New Deal appealed most to SPA members. It called for a Social Security act, the creation ofa labor board and a Fair Labor Standard act. These policies answered what the Socialist Party of America had been trying to push. As a result Norman Thomas urged his supporters to vote Democrat and the Socialist Party of America was turned into no mor e then a doctrinal sect. The immigration boom in the late 1800s brought Socialism to the United States.The formation of the Populist and Progressive parties as alternatives to socialism started a movement of Socialist political parties. After converting his views to socialism, Eugene Debs united these small factions into the Socialist Party of America. The party achieved victories among local politics in the states, Midwestern states being a reliable stronghold. After presidential runs by Eugene Debs from 1900 to 1912, the SPA's highpoint came in 1912 with 117,984 members. Internal breakdown caused party members to turn on each other which resulted in member suspension.

(Tortora, 2001, p. 759) Water sources are checked for contamination because the transmission of water-borne diseases is high because many people share water from the same source. 1. Obtain a small sample of water from the water supply to be tested for contaminants. 2. Using aseptic technique, inoculate a lactose broth and incubate it at 37 degrees for 24 hours. 3. If the result is anything other than the combination of an acidic change in pH indicated by a yellow color and gas indicated by CO2 getting caught in the inverted Duram tube the test was negative, no further tests are needed. 4. If the result is a change in color of the lactose broth to yellow and the production of gas the test was positive, continue on to the Confirmed test 5. Streak an Eosin Methylene Blue (EMB) plate for isolation using technique and incubate for 24 hours at 37 degrees. 6. A positive result is when the colonies are a metallic green color; continue onto the completed test. 7. A negative result is when the colonies are any other color and no further testing is needed because the contamination was not confirmed. ...

According to the writings by Scott (2003), he wrote that the acts of torture have been pre-existing even in the biblical ages and in fact, Jesus himself underwent serve torture whereby he was thoroughly beaten and nailed on the cross, and then left to die. The act of crucifying Jesus is perhaps among the most documented forms of torture in the biblical ages whose main intent was to coerce Jesus into proclaiming that he is not the son of God. Harbury (2005) wrote that in the modern era torture had been usually common in the correctional system, whereby prisoners were subjected to corporal punishments, which were stipulated by judges in the form of strokes. Torture in the prisons were usually meant to punish the prisoners for the crime they did or coerce them into giving additional information that will help law enforcers to solve other crimes connected with the prisoner. Different types of torture Scott (2003) in his studies wrote that the simplest form of torture is the starvation o f a person by intentionally denying him food and water. This form of torture is used to push the victim to his last brink in order to break him down and obtain crucial information from the victim. Secondly, torture can be in the form of severe beating of a person using different objects, holding the breath of a person, use of electric shocks on a person, burning of person, pouring of corrosive or hot liquid on a person, cutting the person bit by bit, or chopping of some body parts. James (1998) stated that the perpetrators of torture also use psychological methods to torture a person and this could include simply informing the victim of the different forms of physical torture that could be applied on him or her. Other methods of psychological torture include using insulting words on the victim or violently reminding the victim about experiences that were also torturing to him or her.
